Drought Length Evidence Animation
Tree ring research presents a complicated story that can be difficult to tell. This animation not only tells that story, but it condenses it into 45 seconds. By meeting with scientists and subject matter experts, the Water Whys team was able to story board and script the content. I had the job of translating that into a hand painted animation that can be shown on air and presented by a meteorologist. The composition is made up of digitally painted assets and vector graphs. Each asset within the painting is completed on a separate layer to allow for a parallax effect when moving the camera around the scene. Sara Kobilka, former meteorologist, voices the script in this video but news stations have the option to create their own script. The animation also leaves room on the right by skewing content to the left in order to allow the reporter to stand in front of the graphic.
Research Fuels the Future Social Media Animation
This campaign was meant to highlight specific innovations within the University of Arizona that show real-world impact on both the greater Arizona community and the world. From agriculture machines, to space satellites, to a medical lens that allows people to see clearly again, I was tasked with creating animations that highlighted some of these in simple 5 second videos. The animations were first illustrated in adobe illustrator using our university brand colors in a consistent style and the layers were organized strategically before importing into after effects. Then key frames and cinematic zooms were added to bring the animations to life.
Black Hole Animation
Frame by frame hand drawn animation using NASA simulation of a black hole. Created for social media in order to highlight an article about the University of Arizona's involvement in the network of telescopes around the world which made it possible to create the first image of a black hole.
